Cumulative Inbound and Outbound Freight on Qinghai-Tibet

Railway Surpasses 100 Million Tons

Over the 20 years since the Qinghai-Tibet Railway went into operation, the cumulative inbound and outbound freight volume has officially surpassed 100 million tons, becoming a landmark milestone in Tibet's economic and social development.

Twenty years ago, the movement of goods in and out of Tibet mainly relied on road transport. Long distances and high transportation costs were once key factors restricting Tibet's economic development. Today, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway has become the main transport artery underpinning Tibet's development.

The cumulative 100 million tons of freight means that, over the past 20 years, on average each resident of Tibet could have received 30 tons of production and living materials from across the country, while also shipping 30 tons of local Tibetan specialty products nationwide, completely breaking the geographical constraints on logistics and transportation for Tibet.
